SSL subscription length and certificate expiry

Keep two dates in your records: when the commercial plan ends and when the certificate currently installed on your server expires.

Why the two dates differ

The commercial term shown in a catalogue is not the validity of one certificate file. Public TLS validity is constrained by CA/Browser Forum requirements and issuer rules. The issuer's current policy and the actual issued certificate determine the expiry to monitor. Do not treat a five-year commercial option as a certificate that stays installed unchanged for five years.

Replacement is a deployment task

DigiCert's plan documentation explains that a plan can involve successive certificates and repeat validation. It also states that obtaining a replacement does not automatically update the website. Plan availability and entitlements vary by product and supplier; check the specific terms rather than applying one issuer's arrangement to every certificate.

What to record for each website

  • The public names and systems using the certificate.
  • The expiry shown by the certificate actually served to visitors.
  • The subscription end date and order reference.
  • The person responsible for validation, installation and verifying the change.
  • The agreed renewal or replacement process and any separate service charges.

Before the installed certificate expires

Confirm that your subscription is active and determine whether the next action is replacement within the plan or purchase of a new term. Keep access to the validation contact and required DNS or hosting controls. Arrange a deployment window, install the issued material on every relevant endpoint and check the certificate visitors actually receive. Keep private keys and login credentials out of support messages.

Buying and renewing in Bangladesh

Read the full BDT total and the selected subscription term on the product comparison pages. Ask for clarification if a quotation does not separate certificate coverage from installation or ongoing support. Our renewal service page explains the information needed for a review, while the installation guide covers deployment preparation.

For an existing purchase, use My Account to review the records available to your signed-in account. A paid order alone is not evidence that a new certificate has been issued or installed.

Common questions

Does a two-year subscription mean a two-year certificate?

No. The subscription and each issued certificate have separate dates. Follow current issuer requirements and monitor the actual certificate expiry.

Is a replacement certificate installed automatically?

Do not assume so. Confirm the deployment process and responsible person. An issued replacement still needs to reach each server or service using it.

Is renewal always free during a subscription?

Check the specific product's entitlement and agreed support scope. Replacement within a plan, a new subscription and installation work are different actions and may have different terms.
