Choosing SSL for an ecommerce website in Bangladesh

Choose SSL coverage for your Bangladesh online shop. Review checkout domains, validation, renewals and support without confusing HTTPS with PCI compliance.

Begin with a map of the shopping journey: storefront, account area, checkout, payment-provider pages and callbacks. Some names may belong to a payment provider or hosted platform, while others are under your control. Buy coverage for the systems you are responsible for rather than counting every link as another certificate.

A local quotation should explain the full subscription amount in BDT, covered names, validation level and service responsibilities. Promotional annual figures are not enough to compare offers with different terms or installation scope.

A practical checklist

01

List the owned HTTPS endpoints

Record the root domain, www, shop or account subdomains and any separate API hostname. Identify a CDN and the origin behind it. A hosted payment page normally has its own operator; confirm your integration responsibilities with that provider.
02

Choose coverage before brand

Use single-domain, wildcard or multi-domain coverage according to the actual names. A wildcard is not unlimited coverage for unrelated domains or every subdomain depth. Verify root-domain inclusion and SAN options on the selected product.
03

Choose the required validation

Domain validation establishes control of the requested names. OV and EV add organization checks under the issuer’s rules. Use business or partner requirements to decide; a more expensive validation level does not automatically encrypt traffic more strongly.
04

Compare the full operational cost

Separate certificate subscription, extra names, initial installation, later replacements and managed monitoring. Ask whether taxes are included in the quote and what support hours are available. Keep current prices on the product page or written quotation.
05

Verify the whole checkout journey

Check redirects, account access, forms, callback URLs and the browser’s certificate details. Use the payment provider’s test mode for payment-flow checks. Keep real transaction data out of screenshots and public support discussions.
06

Assign renewal and incident ownership

Monitor each installed certificate, including origins behind a CDN. Keep a backup contact able to reach hosting and DNS administrators. Plan replacement before expiry rather than relying on the subscription invoice alone.

Common problems and decisions

The payment gateway already has HTTPS

That does not secure your own login, account or storefront connection. Map the boundary and keep your website’s certificate valid too.

A proposal promises PCI compliance through an SSL purchase

Ask for the actual applicable validation process and responsibility scope. PCI SSC identifies specific compliance documentation; a website certificate is not that documentation.

A seal or padlock is treated as fraud protection

Neither proves that the business is honest or that the application is free of vulnerabilities. Maintain secure administration, patching, backups and payment controls.

Prepare for the next conversation

Send a quotation request with your owned domain list, platform, hosting/CDN setup, expected growth and any stated organization-validation requirement. Avoid sending card data or customer exports. Ask the supplier to explain excluded work so an initial low price does not hide a later installation or renewal task.

Common questions

Does every Bangladesh online shop need EV SSL?

No universal requirement is established here. Check your business, integration and contractual requirements, then choose the appropriate validation and coverage.

Can free SSL be used for an online shop?

A correctly configured, trusted and reliably renewed certificate can protect HTTPS regardless of price. Evaluate automation, support and any additional validation requirements.

Does outsourcing payment remove all PCI responsibilities?

No. PCI SSC explains that merchants can retain responsibilities even when processing is outsourced. Confirm the applicable requirements with the acquirer or qualified adviser.

Will SSL increase sales by a guaranteed percentage?

No. This guide makes no conversion or revenue promise. Reliable HTTPS is one part of a functioning customer experience.
